Riding the wave

It is the disused name of an old constellation, which includes the southern part of the constellation of Aquila (the Eagle). It takes its name from a real person, who was the young favorite of Emperor Hadrian, who kept him with him everywhere.

When Antinous died in Egypt, in mysterious circumstances, the Emperor ordered that he be worshipped throughout the empire and also founded a city bearing his name (Antinoupoli).

We know his looks from his portrait on Hadrian's coins and from many statues and bas-reliefs found in places where he was honored (Alexandria, Mantinea, Lanuvio, Ostia, Hadrian's Villa).
