Riding the wave

At times, especially in the turbulent years preceding the national unity, the Italian ships had "ideological" names, that must have been not easy to represent with a sculpture. Of some fanciful figureheads, made in Liguria, we have the drawings, that were probably required to the designers by the ship owners. An example is the sketch of a figurehead depicting a mythological animal. Watercolor on paper, circa 1870.
